Prompts to Start the Session
These five prompts are my go-to when we're starting the session. I think these prompts are great ways to get them comfortable with being in front of the camera and let the session unfold naturally from there. All of these prompts allow me to capture many different images.
#1. Hold Hands and Run Towards Me
I LOVE using this prompt during couples/engagement sessions for so many reasons.
Being in front of the camera can be intimidating, especially if you're not a fan of having your picture taken. This prompt distracts from that for a moment, because you're focused on running and looking at your partner.. you might even forget you're in front of the camera!
#2. Belly Button to Belly Button
I love to use this pose as a way to show off the ring and get adorable shots up close! I can get several different shots with this one pose by shooting from different angles, having them look towards me, at each other, and off to the side. I also make sure to have him pull her in close, leaving little to no room between them.
#3. Kiss on the Forehead
I like to use this as a way to capture a sweet moment between the couple. I usually have them hold hands, facing me so that I can get a good shot of the ring as well. I then have them turn in towards each other, but still angled towards me.
#4. Classic
A classic engagement pose! This pose looks great on anyone, and is great for the couples to use for save the dates and prints!
I normally have the him face towards me, and her angle in towards him, having her "pop" her knee.
I can usually do several variations of this pose to get several different shots!
For engagements, I always try and make sure to emphasise the ring when I can, and making sure the hand with the ring on it is on top of his arm is a great way to do this.
#5. Slow Walk Towards Me
I love this prompt sooo much! I normally start the session off with this prompt, it helps the couple become comfortable with being in front of the camera quickly while feeling natural at the same time. I usually start this with "walk towards me slowly" while I say "Looking at each other, looking at me", etc.
I also like to have them pretend like they're walking on a tightrope, bumping hips together, and holding hands.
